Everest Avalanche Appeal

In the early hours of Friday 18 April, an avalanche struck and 13 Sherpas lost their lives in the Khumbu Icefall on Everest.  Three more Sherpas are missing, and must be assumed dead. Celebrating the 60th Anniversary with the Mount Everest Foundation

The Himalayan Trust UK and the first ascent of Everest, in 1953, are inextricably linked.  You can read all about this elsewhere on our site, but just as a reminder, it was of course Sir Edmund Hillary who founded the Himalayan Trust.  The late Chairmen of the Himalayan Trust’s UK chapter, George Lowe and George Band, were both climbers on the 1953 Everest team, as was trustee Michael Westmacott.  In …Read More
