The training of local volunteers to improve basic health provision to the remote mountain communities where we work is a core part of the Himalayan Trust UK’s work. Forty-seven-year old Pampha is a Female Community Health Volunteer (FCHV) in Taplejung, and during the COVID-19 crisis, she is playing a key role in her community. With remote training from our local partner organisation, Action For Nepal, she is part of a team monitoring the temperatures and health of local families in her village.
She told us: “I feel so proud to have this role; I have been able to provide information about COVID-19 to people here and give them information about what to do if they display any symptoms. I want to say thank you to our supporters in the UK because the arrival of PPE in my community has given people like me the protection we need so we can keep others safe. I am proud to serve my community during this crisis. On behalf of all the FCHVs and everyone in our community, thank you for standing with us.”
