Worldwide journey of celebrations

Next year marks the 70th anniversary of the first successful ascent of Mt Everest in 1953. This amazing achievement will be celebrated by a global community with direct links to 1953. They, together with the Hillary and Tenzing families, have organised a series of events retracing the journey made by the 1953 team starting in Nepal, then India and finishing in London between 29 May and 15 June 2023. The events will showcase the enduring legacy and human achievements made now and then.

Of course the journey didn’t start (nor finish) with the ascent of Mount Everest and between now and June 2023 we would like to take you on a journey celebrating the impact of the 1953 expedition and how it inspires people till this day. We invite you to follow the Everest70 campaign on social media and join us at the events in London.

We are proud to be part of the global community celebrating Everest 70
