As part of our focus to improve health in Taplejung we have previously told you about the Yamphudin Health Post with Birthing Centre Project. We are very pleased to report that the Health Post is operating very successfully and is making a difference to the local communities in and around Yamphudin.
Mothers-to-be attend antenatal visits at the Health Post where they are taught about healthy lifestyles and how to prepare for successful births. There have been 9 deliveries in the Health Post with trained staff in attendance and equipment such as a stretcher and baby warmer that haven’t been available to the area before. The new mothers are grateful for the postnatal care that has been put in place and the immunisation programme is well attended which is so vital for a healthy start to a newborn’s life. Your continuous support has also allowed us to set up a Community Help Fund assisting mothers with the purchases of necessary clothing and blankets for the newborns.
The community, including some men, have participated in our health promotion sessions partly run by a local health worker whose training you funded. The villagers are now learning about common illnesses such as Hypertension, Asthma and Diabetes as well as the importance of good nutrition.
Attendances to the Health Post continue to go up on a monthy basis showing the trust the community are placing in the staff, services and facilities.
Covid has clearly affected our programme but has also seen seen some positive outcomes. Regular contact with our partner on the ground has been made easier by the world’s discovery of Zoom, resulting in an even closer and effective relationship. Our response to Covid specific emergency projects have also forged relationships with local governments which will benefit the roll-out of our Health Programme in the rest of the region.
